I was lucky to attend the 1st Annual African Fashion Festival in Zurich hosted by African Heritage Switzerland. This was a show of several African designers: Tonye’s Fashion, Jet Set Creations, Reyma-Say Designs, Sol & Wax, and Cassare.
While Beyoncé and Rihanna are rocking the ethnic vibes, I keep dreaming of visiting this fantastic continent one day that brings together so many different cultures, languages, food and clothing styles. One thing for sure – African designers have definitely gained worldwide recognition. Their styles, prints, and patterns play a significant role in everyday fashion. Who wouldn’t like to rock a colourful African print blazer to make a bold statement? As I’ve noticed, these batik prints in contemporary cut are the key balance between the ethnic and modern styles. Almost every piece of clothing comes in vibrant colours – loving it!
As if that wasn’t enough, I’ve never seen a dynamic fashion show like this! I mean, everybody was dancing during the catwalk – the models, guests, hosts…. I couldn’t stop looking at those amazing people wearing their native attire, being so proud to represent their culture. Good job, guys, wishing you the best of luck and success in the upcoming events!
